Weatherzone No.1 in the Appstore

Weatherzone Plus hit number one paid App in the Appstore on iTunes on the 7th and 8th of November, this is something I am proud of being a part of.
Though I was one of 3 working on the new Weatherzone App, I was mainly concentrated on the look and feel of the finished product along with the promotional collateral, however to hit no.1 on the Appstore is a massive feat for Weatherzone.
It was a massive effort on two parts, one being the weather is a very niche market which means it’s extremely tough hitting a top positions considering the content while the other main factor being Weatherzone is the first and only business across all of Fairfax Media to hit this position which makes a very small team look awesome.
I believe Weatherzone Plus hit the top position because of the overall weather conditions for Sydney and Melbourne over two days, a newly refreshed app being plugged across the Fairfax network, the overall redesign/redevelopment of the app and most importantly the brand strategy for overall engagement for the team building a quality app within the business unit. A mix of these condition meant that first big weather event of the season, good marketing and good pricing point pushed the app into the right position for us. Once in the top 10 apps tend to stay their for a while because it works as its own marketing tool within the Appstore.
From my perspective the iPhone apps from Weatherzone have gone from strength to strength, a Mobi Award this year and No.1 in the Appstore is testament to the hard work the team has put in.
